Connection help

Connect TIAA to Silvia

Follow these steps to find your TIAA account in Silvia, authorize a connection, and resolve common setup issues.

Before You Start

Have your TIAA login and access to your usual verification method ready. Check that you can sign in directly with your institution before starting.

  • Confirm that you can access your accounts directly at tiaa.org. If you recently registered, finish TIAA’s identity verification and first login before connecting from Silvia.
  • TIAA uses additional verification for unfamiliar devices. Follow the security or passkey prompts offered by the connection window and have your usual verification method available.

Connect Your Account

  1. Open Your Portfolio in Silvia

Sign in and open Assets & Liabilities (or My Portfolio). Select Banks & Brokerages under Add an Asset. If your page has an Add button, choose Add asset first. On mobile, the + button opens the add options.

  2. Find the Right TIAA Listing

Search for TIAA in the Add Account window. Choose the listing that matches your institution and account type. Banking, credit card, brokerage, and workplace accounts may use different listings.

  3. Follow the Connection Prompts

Silvia opens the connection provider for the listing you selected. Follow the sign-in instructions and complete any verification requested by TIAA. You may be redirected to your institution to authorize access.

  4. Review Access & Select Your Accounts

Review the requested data access, select the accounts you want to share when prompted, and complete the authorization. Available accounts and data depend on your institution and connection provider.

  5. Return to Silvia

Finish the connection flow and return to your portfolio. Allow time for the initial sync, then check that your selected accounts appear. Balances, holdings, and transactions may arrive at different times where available.

If You Have Trouble Connecting

  • If TIAA locks your online access after unsuccessful sign-in attempts, use its account recovery flow before retrying in Silvia. TIAA’s help page also covers forgotten user IDs and passwords.
  • If an account appears at TIAA but is absent from the connection window, confirm the selected listing and accounts offered by the provider. Availability can vary by account; contact Silvia support if the account is still missing.

Ready to Connect?

Open your portfolio, then follow the steps above to search for TIAA. You may be asked to sign in first.
