Connection help
Connect Principal Financial Group to Silvia
Follow these steps to find your Principal Financial Group account in Silvia, authorize a connection, and resolve common setup issues.
Before You Start
Have your Principal Financial Group login and access to your usual verification method ready. Check that you can sign in directly with your institution before starting.
- For your own retirement account, look for Principal Financial Group - Participant Logon. Principal has separate access for individuals, employers, and financial professionals; use your individual account credentials.
- Finish setting up your online account directly with Principal before connecting. Have your registered verification method ready and follow the sign-in prompts presented by the connection provider.
Connect Your Account
Open Your Portfolio in Silvia
Sign in and open Assets & Liabilities (or My Portfolio). Select Banks & Brokerages under Add an Asset. If your page has an Add button, choose Add asset first. On mobile, the + button opens the add options.
Find the Right Principal Financial Group Listing
Search for Principal in the Add Account window. Choose the listing that matches your institution and account type. Banking, credit card, brokerage, and workplace accounts may use different listings.
Follow the Connection Prompts
Silvia opens the connection provider for the listing you selected. Follow the sign-in instructions and complete any verification requested by Principal Financial Group. You may be redirected to your institution to authorize access.
Review Access & Select Your Accounts
Review the requested data access, select the accounts you want to share when prompted, and complete the authorization. Available accounts and data depend on your institution and connection provider.
Return to Silvia
Finish the connection flow and return to your portfolio. Allow time for the initial sync, then check that your selected accounts appear. Balances, holdings, and transactions may arrive at different times where available.
If You Have Trouble Connecting
- If you cannot sign in directly, use Principal’s individual account login help to recover your username or password before returning to Silvia.
- If verification fails, check My profile at Principal and review your two-factor authentication preferences. Use the verification options shown; keep account security enabled.
- If the connection asks you to enable data sharing but Principal does not show a matching option, contact Principal or Silvia support with the exact message rather than changing unrelated privacy settings.
Ready to Connect?
Open your portfolio, then follow the steps above to search for Principal Financial Group. You may be asked to sign in first.
