GPU rental spikes came before AI stock dips, but the signal is faint
Correlation of 5-day returns at each lag, GPU rental index (Ornn Data) vs a 7-name hardware basket (NVDA, MU, CRWV, NBIS, TSM, AVGO, DELL). Positive lag means the rental price moves first

The price to rent an AI chip is not yet a reliable warning sign for the stocks built around it.
The H100 rental index from Ornn Data hit a three-month high on October 27, up 25 percent since September 25. In Ornn's data as published on October 28, H100 rental-price jumps from July 28 to October 27 tended to come before weaker five-day returns in seven AI hardware stocks, with the link peaking four trading days later at a correlation of -0.49.
That reading is only borderline significant. The H200 and B200 signals are weaker and not significant, and on daily returns the H100 pattern largely disappears.
For now, GPU rental prices are a clue about AI hardware stocks, not a timing tool.
